Okay so here at Inside View Gaming we have put a little get together on how to complete the achievements given on Skyrim’s second set of DLC; Hearthfire. To be able to build and buy land you must be a thane in each hold, Falkreath, Dawnstar and Morthal. As far as we know the houses are not able to be changed after you have built what you want so if you dont like having the trophy room, so far as we know at the moment – you’re stuck with it! So save early and save often just incase you wish you hadnt built the room you thought you wanted. We hope this helps you out!
Achievement is easy enough to complete – just go to Riften orphanage speak to Greold or if you killed her then speak to Constance.
She will ask a couple of questions about you like in true orphanage style, a little about your name and your job ( if you’re adopting in real life, stating your job as the dragonborn will probably not get you a kid).
After your questions you can go and speak to all of the children and find out about them, listen to their stories of how they ended up at the oprhanage and make your own mind up if they are too annoying to belong to you, who wants a naughty kid right and decide if they are coming home with you.
We decided on The only girl in the orphanage. Why do all the chores for them whan she can do them for us!
Okay so after 2 hours of looking round a friendly twitter person had said the way they got their land was to go to Morthal, go into Highmoon Hall and speak to Aslfur. Speak to hm and ask to buy a house, to which he says none are available but you can have some land for 5000 and build your own in the Hjaalmarch hold.
A list of things to equip your self with -
Make sure you stack up any Iron and Corundom ingots you have as you WILL need more than provided for things like nails and door locks! Sawn wood – from any lumber mill they will deliver apparently. Generally 20 logs costs 200 Gold but dont think you can get it for free by cutting it yourself oh no! Clay and stone from building sites but we havent found this yet. Straw and Glass can be found at any general goods store in Skyrim and the rest you need according to “The Beginners Guide to homesteading” can be found in Skyrim. We will update where to find things when we find them!. - Read the book – it is helpful
It will be quicker to fast travel to Ustengrav and a new miscellaneous task appears to go visit the new property (which means land) but the achievement will pop as soon as you hand over the 5000 gold.
Your property here will be called Windstad Manor and upon reaching the plot site you will see a chest a new carpenters work bench an anvil and a book called ” The Beginners Guide to homesteading” with lantern and a drafting table all close together. in the chest will be the first set of supplies you need to create your house.
This is pretty self-explanatory, make sure you have plenty, and we mean plenty of building materials and then just simply build three different wings on the existing house after creating a main hall. There are plenty of Mills noted on your map to go and buy sawn wood.
Belethor’s General Goods store in Whiterun will sell Glass (11), Goats Horns (7) and Straw (12)
Quarry Stone and clay seems to be infinite spawn near to your house. At our house in Hjaalmarch our quarry can be found opposite the main hall on the right towards where the smelter is placed but behind a big white tree, not by our work station as seen in the video below and our clay area is at our waters edge tucked away by the fish hatchery. we can confirm that it is infinite spawn and does not run out.
We will provide as soon as we find them, the best places to buy other materials.
As repetitive as the above.
The three areas to build your houses are Hjaalmarch, Falkreath and The Pale. If you have followed us here then Falkreath and The Pale will be your remaining plots.
The second plot you can find (The Pale) in Dawnstar, head to the Jarl’s place (The White Hall) and speak to the Jarl and by your land (5000 Gold) become a thane and then fast travel out to the Tower of Mzark and just below you will see a house called Heljarchen Hall, this is your new property.
Same as before set of work benches, a chest to get started with and the unlimited stone and clay quarry’s near by.
Now incase you want to build all three houses as amazing as possible, we arn’t going to lie but your going to need a fair bit of money. 5000 Gold per land plot and then a lot nails, sawn wood, clay and quarried stone to create the remaining houses.
To obtain the achievement you only need to build the small house to hear that awesome pop of an achievement.
The house’s are not able to be sold, or currently as far as we are aware, the wings changed and you must be thane or about to be made thane to be able to buy and build.
Happy building and we hope this has made it easier for you!
